I have a lousy track record with blogging. I started this blog in July of 2009, wrote two posts (Available Below! Read at Yer Own Peril!), and stopped. Brain death, creativity death, perhaps Old Jackie death.
I’m disciplined to the point of routine. I love writing. Not continuing? Odd. So, I over analyzed. Enter the Chatter Monkeys.
Isn’t it narcissistic to write about yourself?
Who would want to read this?
Who cares?
What if you have nothing to say?
What if you have too much to say?
Who are you?
What do you want?
Those last two questions brought on The Ache to Figure It Out. The Ache is full-frontal-soul-nudity, made all the more acute by my age and the fact that I have already completed one career and chased after another dream only to smack face-first into my own limits. More on that another time…it’s a lot funnier than it sounds.
I choose to pretend to be fearless on my journey. (N.B. Even I’m rolling my eyes at that. “Journey.” Jeeeez. How lofty and lovely. I need to try to limit the use of the very word unless it is followed by some comment about Steve Perry.) It’s going to be messy. It should be uproarious. It will probably be awkward at first, until I stop apologizing for my own work, my own thoughts. I will, however, apologize for other things, like too many references to Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
I’m making it semi-public, gently asking you, friends, to drag your eyeballs here at least once. After that, feel free to feel never read it again and hope and pray I won’t bring it up to you ever again. (I won’t) If, however, your fancy is tickled, come on over, kick your shoes off (bonus points if your toenails are painted Smurf Blue like mine are right now), and watch me feather dust my brain. Invite some friends. Laugh with me. Heck, laugh at me — I sure do.
My goal is to post an average of twice a week for a year, hopefully to have 100 posts by Tax Day, 2011.
Inviting you keeps me honest. Inviting you keeps me smiling.
Thank you, friends. See you soon.
My toenails are hot pink do I get half a bonus point? My child thinks they are so beautiful she kisses them. Little freak.
